Planning a grit sequence for surface preparation
Start with the workpiece and required finish, then evaluate a sequence on a sample.
Start with the requirement
Coarse grits remove material quickly and leave deep scratches; fine grits refine the surface. The starting point depends on the substrate, defect depth and removal requirement.
Confirm compatibility
Step down grits in order and inspect the workpiece at each stage. Skipping grits leaves scratches that are hard to remove, and cleaning between stages avoids coarse-grit contamination.
Prepare your enquiry
Grit numbering is not interchangeable between grading systems. Confirm the grading standard, abrasive type and availability in the quotation, and follow machine and abrasive safety instructions.
