Aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃)
The most common abrasive grain for belts and discs: tough, workable, suited to metal, wood and general finishing.
ANSI grit scale
Legacy North American grit numbering. Similar-size grains differ from the FEPA scale — name the standard in every enquiry.
Backer pad
The backing plate a disc sits on: pad diameter, face (hook) and port layout must match the disc.
Backing (cloth)
A cotton/cloth web that carries the abrasive grain on belts. Weight (e.g. X-weight) sets flexibility and load capacity.
Backing (polycotton)
Poly-cotton web backing: a balance of strength and flexibility for general-purpose belts.
Belt
A continuous loop of abrasive grain on a web backing, used on belt machines for grinding, finishing and deburring.
Blending (weld)
Smoothing a weld so it blends into the surrounding metal — typically a first pass on a flap disc or belt, then finer grits.
Closed coat
A close-coated grain layout with little open space; the belt resists clogging on harder work.
Debur / Deburring
Removing burrs and small protrusions left by cutting, sawing or grinding.
Dust collection / dust extraction
Removing abrasive dust at the workpiece — via pad ports, open-mesh discs or local extraction.
FEPA grit scale
The ISO 848 (FEPA) grading scale in P-notation (e.g. P120). The default scale in most European and international trade.
Flap disc
A disc of overlapping abrasive flaps, flexible, for grinding, blending and finishing on angle grinders.
Grit
The nominal grain size of an abrasive: higher numbers are finer. Belts 40–800; discs 60–5000.
Hook & loop
The hook-and-loop attachment system for discs: the disc snaps onto a hook-faced pad.
Mesh / open-mesh
Open-mesh discs have cut-out windows for dust to pass through, needing a compatible pad and extraction.
MOQ
Minimum order quantity — comes with the offer, alongside availability and terms.
OEM / private label
Original equipment manufacturing / private label: our products under your brand, labels and packaging.
PSA (pressure-sensitive adhesive)
Pressure-sensitive adhesive backing: the disc sticks directly onto a compatible pad.
Sanding disc
A flat or flapped abrasive circle mounted on a pad for sanding and finishing.
Silicon carbide (SiC)
Silicon carbide grain: very hard, sharp, suited to glass, ceramics and non-ferrous metals.
Surface preparation
Getting a surface ready for coating or finishing: removing rust, filler or old finish to a consistent profile.
Wet / dry grade
Grades that stay cool and clog-resistant in wet or wet/dry use; confirm suitability with the quotation.
X-weight cloth
A mid-weight cloth backing for general-purpose belts: strong yet flexible.
Zirconia
Zirconia alumina grain: tough and aggressive for metal grinding, deburring and finishing on steel.
